Homemade Biscuit Recipe

These are very similar to Momma’s  Drop Biscuits with just a couple modifications.  In my drop recipe I use butter, but for these biscuits I prefer shortening but butter still works.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup Shortening or 1 stick butter
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Add dry ingredients bowl and whisk dry to incorporate.
  3. Put shortening or butter into dry mixture.
  4. Press into the flour with the back of fork or fingers.  If you use a standing mixer for this, it only takes 30 seconds or until pea-sized.
  5. Add Milk and mix briefly.
  6. Flour surface and add mixture to begin rolling.
  7. Roll lightly and flour to keep from sticking.  The dough should be 3/4″ to 1″ thick for cutting.
  8. Place on a cookie sheet just enough to touch.  You can add butter to the top if you like, but I like them like this.
  9. Bake for 22-25 minutes at 375º.
