WHAT IS OIL PULLING?

Oil pulling, also known as “kavala” or “gundusha,” is an ancient Ayurvedic dental technique that involves swishing a tablespoon of oil in your mouth on an empty stomach for around 20 minutes. This action is said to draw out toxins in your body, primarily to improve oral health but also to improve your overall health.

WHY USE PULLING OIL?

The act of swishing the oil pulls the oil soluble toxins and harmful microbes residing in the mouth from the fat cells. When practiced regularly, oil pulling can reduce inflammation. That is because as the level of toxins in the toxic fat decreases, the body withdraws water around them and reduce inflammation.

ABOUT GURUNANDA PULLING OIL

GuruNanda Pulling Oil incorporates oils with healing properties related to Ayurveda’s five major elements. The oils are a proprietary ratio of 100% organic sunflower, coconut, peppermint and sunflower oils. When combined, these oils pull toxins and harmful bacteria from the body’s salivary glands. According to GuruNanda, the 3 oils balance the 3 doshas (humors) and the peppermint oil acts as a catalyst (Agni).

MY EXPERIENCE

Upon first using the GuruNanda Pulling Oil I was taken a bit back by how thick it was, it is different then the mouthwash I have used all these years. Thanks to the peppermint, there is a minty flavor to it. Swishing the oils in my mouth for 20 minutes was a challenge. I found occupying myself with other things like picking up the house or starting a load of laundry sped time up. During those 20 minutes, I swished oils between my teeth and the oil became thinner and double the volume. When done I spat out the oils, rinsed my mouth out thoroughly with warm water, then brushed and flossed.

This was actually hard to do and I'm not sure I will do it again.  If I could just work through a couple weeks of this I might see some benefits as stated above.  I could use a reduction in inflamation.
